Well to start off this is my first build thread. I got the engine in trade about 10 years ago and the guy sweared it used to pull the front tires up in a bug(dont they all.lol) when I first opened it up I noticed the valves were all rusted and it had a burnt piston. At that time in my life I didn't know quite what I was doing so it sat off to the side until the beginning of this year. It was a dual port with some odd size pistons that I found out were NPR pistons(made sense why 90.5's wouldn't fit years ago) with a set of stock rods and a cast 78mm crank. The case had case savers with 10mm head studs and there wasn't enough room to cut any more material out for new 90.5 barrels so I had to have the jugs turned down to fit the case. I was originally going to build a 2007cc but the 80mm crank was quite a bit cheaper so I said what the heck might as well:)

I'm sure I'm missing something but that's my memory for ya I have young timers. This is also my first motor that I would consider that I'm "building" vs assembling I'm sure we all know the difference there. Itll be a slow thread I only work on it when I get a few hours here and there but its coming along its almost ready to become a short block!
Oh yeah can't forget got some work done on my mst serpentine pulley by Mario at The Dubshop for future efi! Got that done before I sent the rotating assembly out for balance:)

Thanks its actually my crawl space turned it into a nice work area/storage for all my parts and toys. Gotta love having 8 feet of usable height so I don't have to crouch. Just ordered up a piston ring grinder to gap my rings. Next couple of nights I'll get my rocker assemblies assembled and crossed off the list
something i found with the rocker assemblies, once you start to set side play, the rockers need to stay on that side and that exact location each time as the heads and rockers will all be fractionally difference, enough to make issues.
Rings gapped to .020 for turbo use(tool worked out great btw)
Rocker assemblies shimmied
Oil squirters drilled in the ac.net hd aluminum pushrods
Drilled out my valve spring shims and set them to .095 till coil bind
Looks like plenty of clearance for the cam gear bolts:)
Next up I'm going to see if I can either find some aluminum round stock that is .450 in diameter or see if I can find someone that can throw a 1/2 piece of stock in there lathe and turn it down for me to make a plug to block the original oil passage from the pump in my block
Yeah the rear main bearing is in the other case half and the oil pump is a CB 26mm pump for full flow so it doesn't have an outlet port like a stock pump it only goes out the cover
Got myself a good running freebie to get my bug back on the road till I get my stroker going:) I've also been playing around with baking paint and trying to get the color that's in my head to appear in front of me as I try different bases and different shades of grey. On the side note of baking paint it sure does lay out nice and has a super hard finish
