Hello,
I am doing a type 4 install on a split bus. It has the DTM shroud with external oil cooler. Does anyone know which direction oil is flowing in this setup: (which fitting is out going and which is return?)
Also, does anyone know which parts are needed to put a temp sender inline with the 1/2 hose running to my external oil cooler?
Thank you!
Andrew

Re: Oil flow direction and temp sender
The cooler is non-directional so I have never given it much thought. I did tee at the oil cooler adapter to hose for a sender, but the other more common way is a "an-8 inline gauge adapter."
Push on oil hose barbs are awful to deal with, JIC (or AN) ends are the only way

Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

Re: Oil flow direction and temp sender
Thank you for the info! I want to put the on/off switch for the fan inline with the hose, and the temp sender for my gauge as well. My thinking was to put the fan switch on the return line and the temp sender before the cooler.
Not sure if this is correct, but if I’m driving and enough air is being forced through the cooler, I shouldnt need the fan to run, so on/off switch on return line would work for this.
Temp sender on outgoing line should give me an idea how hot the oil is before it is cooled.
I can install engine and use the starter motor to see which way oil flows...
I did find an in-line an-tee that has a port for a 1/8 temp sender, and also found a 1/8 VDO sender. The sender is for 400 deg., so I am not certain this will work until I try it.
Thank you,
Andrew

Re: Oil flow direction and temp sender
I'd have both in the return line. Fan switching for the reason you mention but I'd also want to know the oil temp entering the engine after cooling. Before and after with a switch to choose would be interesting for the gauge.

The fitting closest to the shroud is the pressure side.
