This evening I got a chance to look her over a little bit better and... right front inner panel is a little rippled. Nothing but a little surface rust I could find anywhere. A little more comfortable with the idea it's a 28k car. Thinking over resto street or baja, maybe class ?11 stock baja?
Well tomorrow the plan is to clean out the carburetor and do the regular maintenance and see if I've got a serviceable bug to drive.

Well this morning I was thinking I could see the ground through the front of the engine compartment and sure enough it's missing the front tin. Also there is a mechanical advanced distributor. Checking to see if the PO has these parts. He's 150 miles from me and I'm kinda unhappy I didn't notice while I was there..... phitz. I like polished aluminum so have a set of 914 2.0 wheels ordered and should be here next week. The car seems to set front up a little and I would prefer level or front down a little. We'll see when I get new wheels and rubber on it.

Looks like a good start so far but then we can't see everything yet. It's going to be a fun build to follow.

I kinda ran out of steam this morning when I realized I need to get more parts and drop the motor to get the tins sorted. Will be able to tinker with some other stuff next week probably.

I wrote and thought I posted a note about this... My Post must have dropped into Cell phone darkness. -

I Wrote that My "Favorite ever, Daily driver bug" (out of some 28 or more) was my 74 ORANGE Standard bug. It was a really great car during my time with it (One of the 2 longer driven Bugs) probably about 2 years off and on... but mostly during those two years. It was the best running, best driving/handling bug I think I ever owned. I may have just gotten lucky with he suspension and the previous owner maybe had recently redone the whole under side or something. I didn't;t expect much from it, as it had a single port engine that ran stronger than any fresh rebuild I have ever driven... Could be the Transmission/engine combo was just right. Never know. But as far as body and fittings... Also my favorite. The seats were kind to you for long drives, and It was super easy to remove the seats for big hauls(I brought home some major stuff in that car jut by removing the passenger front seat... complete Set of Bottles and Cart for a gas welding rig with the tall bottles... LOL stuff like that) The one and only thing that irritated me with that body was those damn Shock mounted bumpers... Never have liked those things. Other than that, You'll probably love that car. Even with its current needs it doesn't;t sound too bad. I would probably still have it if some crazy impatient lady hadn't;t ran me over in an intersection... even then I drove it for a few months all totaled out... Stuck a new left from wing on it but finally stripped it for the parts I wanted. Still have the engine and a Dune buggy Frame started to put it on.

Wheels came in today, went and had some 195-65 tires mounted. Got the rears on.
Looking at the wear on pedals and around the drivers foot well I wouldn't feel comfortable advertising this as a 28,000 mile car. No milage on the title so couldn't verify anything anyway.
Well another picture I guess.
I'll try to get some more of detail pictures and post over the next couple weeks. Image

I like the look of the new wheels and the color of the bug.

Got the rest on after work this evening. Looks like I could drop the front 2.5 inches without major clearance issues. We'll see. ImageImageImage

Off early today, planning on having a little beer at a friend's garage and pulled the carb to rebuild while I'm there. That done I adjusted the trunk latch pin down because it wasn't catching. Well it catches now but won't release....phitz. When I have someone around to help we'll see what can be done. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In the midst of sorting out a turbo installation on a 94 F250 I cleaned out the bowl and idle circuit this evening. Will see in the morning.
