Thought I would share some pics and info of my '69 bug. This has been a five year project, bare metal body off job running a Type 4 2666cc turbo engine
Engine specs:
Scat 80mm crankshaft with H-beam rods and ARP studs
103mm Wiseco strutted flat top pistons with Mageriz Deutz thick wall cylinders
Web 86b camshaft with Scat lifters, CB tapered pushrods and Pauter roller rockers
T4 Cylinder heads with 42mm intake / 40mm exhaust valves, CB Type 1 HD valve springs & titanium retainers
12.5:1 Static Compression
Garrett GT3582R turbo with 0.82r turbine housing, Turbosmart 38mm ultragate preset to 7psi
IDF style intakes with 44mm individual throttles, 220lb injectors running on methanol
228mm Flywheel with Kennedy stage 2 pressure plate and 6 puck clutch
Fat performance Porsche style cooling
CB Performance dual stage dry sump
Water/Air charge cooling

That thing is wild! Why Methanol as the fuel choice? Can't be very practical in a street cruiser. Good for cool running and big power though. I bet that's a fun one to drive! Any dyno time yet?

With 12:1 compression we had no other choice than to run methanol. I never intended to really drive far with it.
It has not been in the dyno as yet, road tune only.

Wow, quite the setup, very nice work.Do you have any pics of the header and intercooler in the car? How close is the header to the axle?

Awesome! I had forgot about the methanol fuel, but that detonation and intercooling are all NO concern anymore then, which is very interesting as the limits will only be the structural integrety of the block and the headsealing then
That turbo is spoty on on that engine as well I think, nice one. Only the intake could have flowed a bit more with 44-46mm valves and the resulting porting. Or did you already have the heads on another engine where 42mm intakes were best there?
Very curieus to what levels you can go, hp wise. Great and extremely interesting set-up to test that!
Beautifull resto too btw!

The header clears the axle by about 3 inches. We ran it underneath the engine with a merged collector behind nr 3 cylinder.

We ran these heads on our n/a engine years ago and did not want to fiddle with the valve sizes. For max hp the small valves would not be ideal.
Methanol solves anything

. Except cylinder head sealing. Lol. But I am quite sure that most cases of torching the head starts with detonation. We are still running 4 stud barrels, the 5th stud has not been added. We have run the engine briefly at 1 bar boost without any issues. The tune is quite rich and ignition timing very conservative so hopefully that will keep it alive. EGT's are super low with the methanol.

Yeah, low EGT's help greatly for head stability as well as anything else
That tranny is gonna hate you!

The gearbox is holding up... for now.

. It will most probably destruct at some stage, I really try not to shock it or do any major launches. It has all the right bits. Weddle 3rd and 4th gears, cromoly keys etc.

We are running a water/air charge cooler with ice box and radiator. It's about 550mm x 230mm x 65mm

We took the blue bug out to a times 1/4 mile event this weekend. Unprepped track and we ran on old circuit race semi slicks.
2nd gear launch,
Best time of the day 12.057 @ 190km/h exit speed. With a little more traction I am sure we'll get into the 11's fairly easy.
