AMR500 on a 1600cc - V2
Hello friends.
I have been on this forum for quite a few years, and have always receive very valuable help from the members here.
I have build a few versions of EFI-systems over the last few years, and here are a couple of links to my previous projects for a start:
https://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopi ... t=grelland
https://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopi ... t=grelland
https://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopi ... d#p1151302
I have also had a build thread on my current engine; a 2110cc oxyboxer:
https://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopi ... 7&t=133879
With some problems:
https://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopi ... 7&t=147506
And the most recent updates:
https://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopi ... 7&t=150242
But enough of the history :=)
One of the reasons I started out with EFI some years ago, was that I wanted to go to a turbo-setup, and for that I figured I needed to learn the basics of EFI in order to fully understand and control fuel and spark.
Even though my mechanical skills leavs a bit to desire, I feel quite confident on the fuel and spark side, so I am ready to move on.
But inspired by Mario and others, I have decided to go the supercharger route. The plan is now to keep the 2110 in the car, and build another engine as backup/replacement once it is done (which could take som time...)
In order not to make each post so terribly long, I will continue in the next post.

Re: AMR500 planning on a 1300cc
I came across an unused AMR500 supercharger for very little money, so that will be my starting point.
Then, a friend of mine has a 1300 dp engine leftover from his 1302 track car (In Europe these could be had with both 1300 and 1600cc engines).
So that is about as far as I have come
So in order for me to move forward, I will need some input/advice.
I have read a few project threads that seem always to end in disasters because people does not have full control of the fuel/spark issues, or the efficiency of the AMR500 is such that you end up with heat issues.
So what I KNOW I will need is the following
First go through the engine and make sure it is as sound as possible; keep the 1300cc displacement and stock heads.
Full flow and hook it up to my external oil cooler already in the car
Microsquirt ECU to control fuel and spark (already installed in the car so that was an easy one)
Single TB, inspired by Mario's setup
42mm CSP Python exhaust is on the 2110cc today, so I plan to keep that
Then to the #1 question in my head:
How to keep IAT cool?
I see a few options:
-Air-Air intercooler
-Water-air intercooler with radiator up front
-Water/meth injection
-Draft-through TB, where the fuel is inserted before the AMR
So let us start there, and hopefully you will have some good inputs before I go to the next questions that involve cam, rockers, porting, CR and a lot of other fun stuff

Re: AMR500 planning on a 1300cc
Sure
But What I am looking for is a little more data/info to document the needs.
I understood from Mario's experiment that if you are going to use water/meth; the amount you need is so much that it affects the boost. Similarly, if you want to add fuel prior to the compressor, you need at least 30% of the fuel there before it makes an impact on the temperature.
So maybe a combinations is a good approach

If you have facebook, look up Alex Gidas.
He has an 1776 with an amr500 and efi plus staged injection.
He can tell you a lot about them.
I think he's on here also but don't know if he coles over alot.
Greetz!

Aaaaah!
I had an amr on my 1641engine 2years back.
I had a dell36 to feed it but screwed up... engine kabooom...
They make such a great noise when spun hard.
I'm deffinatly following this!

The AMR's are a great addition! I dont have any of the technical data you are looking for but I am following along for the ride:)

Great, guys. Seems to be some interest here
And rubenski, I have read your thread a few times, and this is one of the builds I refer to when I said it ended in disaster

Re: AMR500 planning on a 1300cc
My turbo has more potential now and runs much cooler at the same boost level, 10psi.
I tought about selling the amr500 with pulleys and belts but I'm waiting for Mario to go SC and turbo on efi.
If he can pull that off, I might also!
So it's safe on the shelf.
(Cost me a few $$ also, sc, custom pulley, belts...)

Re: AMR500 planning on a 1300cc
So while we are waiting for more people to comment; let's have a look at the HW I have collected so far
Seems like the PO liked blue
