T4 cams
So, I asked Clatter in a PM to look at the CB Performance
T4 cams they have on offer. After he assessed them he thought others on here might give an opinion and suggested I copy and paste his response to the Type4Rum. The next paragraph is the beginning of his response.
Looking at those CB type 4 cams, you have my interest.
They don't have specs for lift @ .050 so you have to just go with advertised duration, which kind of sucks.
But this one looks promising the 'Road Cam' :
https://www.cbperformance.com/product-p/2203.htm
298' and .478 put it somewhere between a Web 86b and 494.
It's got the same advertised duration as the 86b but less lift than the 86b or the 163, but more than the 494.
http://www.webcamshafts.com/pages_vehic ... /1693.html
Would be an interesting cam to try, no doubt.
You'd better have a 2056 and some decent heads running that one with your header.
it would be too much for a 1.7 on the street IMHO.
It also certainly needs dual springs..
This one seems like a typo - the 2202 'Street Power Cam' - seems like it should be bigger than the 'Road Cam'
https://www.cbperformance.com/product-p/2202.htm
Advertised duration at 278 and .410 lift puts it near the (mild) Web 86,
But with a tad more duration and even less lift?
This would be a good choice for your milder street motor.
Probably really nice on an otherwise-stock 1.7, and good for a 2056 too.
You would also likely save money not having to chop cylinders down to get the CR up,
As the dynamic compression ratio would be relatively high..
That would be a good budget way to go, IMHO.
Provided that's not a typo.
See if they'll give you lift at .050 specs,
That would say a lot more about what these cams are like.

Re: T4 cams
Nice.
To clarify, the OG discussion was about finding a cam for a mild 1700 or 2056 build.
The discussion went back and forth a bit,
And then we looked at the CB type 4 cams..
They cost a lot less than the Web, and also you can get lifters for far cheaper.
Based upon the specs you can see, they seem like a good alternative.
it would be really fun to build a motor or two and try them back-to-back,
Or have a dyno session.
Too bad I have a job and all..
FWIW, the link to Webcam is broken,
Maybe fix the link?

Re: T4 cams
They certainly look like a good option to a Webcamshaft!
It would be great if people could post some actual experience with different cams HP etc as that would go a long way to helping people choose a suitable camshaft for their builds.

Well, I want to. They're very inexpensive (you can get the C25,35,45 from Summit Racing for $103 and the more modern grinds for maybe $10 more), but I hear less than desirable thing about them.VIPERGREEN76 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 10:27 am Has anyone use the Scat cam & Scat lifters?

I've pretty much convinced myself Web is that only way I'll go, even if you can gather 3 Scat cam for the cost of a single Web.

Yes, I ran a C25 in my first type 1 engine and now I run a C45 in my 1971cc type 4. Both without any issues.VIPERGREEN76 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 10:27 am Has anyone use the Scat cam & Scat lifters?

Re: T4 cams
so what would be best for my 1.7 bus motor for my 68 bug (cb wise)?i am thinking about "shaving" the top of my dished pistons to raise the compression a tiny bit

He's a link to the AC.net page. I don't have a break down like the cams above

Heres all the data on Scat Cams . I run a C55 in a 2.6 daily driver . I use TP tool steel lifters , so far over close to 20,000km on the engine and nothing surprising when doing rocker adjustments during the 5K services .
That's wheel HP . with the big engine it has plenty of lower rev power but really comes alive over 3000 .

Re: T4 cams
I'd love to know how this one is working out for you.
Been digging and digging thru specs, and the C45 is looking -Very- attractive for a hot street motor at or near stock displacement.
I'm guessing you are running Webers or similar with four throats, correct?
What exhaust?
Is the thing cantankerous in traffic or lugging around town?
This cam looks really right to me (I generally like more cam than the average guy these days).
Having done a Web 86b in a 2056 and liking it, It's better behaved than the specs would suggest.
The C45 seems great for something a bit smaller, with maybe less headwork?
Maybe a bit rough down low, but not annoyingly so?
C45 has a little more lift than the 86b, and the same advertised duration,
But 254 vs. 260 at .050.. That should mean the ramps are a bit gentler on the C45,
And the added lift might just mean they both have the same 'harshness' on the valvetrain,
Or maybe the C45 is a bit less?
I love the 86b,
But at almost triple the cost,
it seems the C45 would do pretty much the same thing...
Dag, I wish I had a dyno and a few free weeks..!

With the carburators it was more nice to drive due to the angle which the throttle valves are placed in, but with the throttle bodies it is still an easy ride through town.
