Aluminum heat sheild+powder coat....will it crack ?

Post by panel »

Do you guys think this aluminum heat , if powder coated , will start cracking over time? Want to do it in black. Could also just leave it natural , but......

I will take a look at mine in a bit. Mine is really close to a panel that is painted. If the paint isn't blistering powder coat surely wouldn't. Although I'm wondering if you polished that if it would reflect more of the heat rather than radiate it?

There might be a way to anodize the AL to black and maybe a glossy black. Been away from those questions for too long now and things have changed. The expansion and contraction of the AL vs. the powder coat's expansion range is the main problem.

Aluminum certainly gets hot. I'm surprised everytime I do any tig welding on aluminum at how hot and how quickly it heats up! Sure doesn't seem to cool down very quickly either.
