I am told that Back In The Day, cam gears cam in Nine sizes, to accomodate line boring and casting variations; to get the backlash to the crank gear right, you had to so a little fiddling/selecting.
Does anyone have any idea what "size" aftermarket cam gears are nowadays? -2? "0"? +2? Once upon a time, even aftermarket gears were stamped with a pitch number, but it seems like now they are unmarked, in general, or the big vendors just say "Standard Size" (is that a "0"?)
Is there a vendor who offers NEW gears in over/undersizes, or does everyone just accept whatever backlash they get, and call it a day?
Wilson's book talks about this a little. And there are some Samba vendors who sell pull-outs.

Re: Cam Gears
Most aftermarket gears are based on a zero, if you're looking for helical gears speak to Roy at mofoco, he typically has a stock of different sizes
