Stock carb or Weber progressive

Post by advinnie »

Hi all I have a 1641cc engine in my bug and I actually have two questions for you lot today
Now the engine does need a top end doing on it but should I do another 1641 or just a 1600 ?
Will I see any difference between the two?
The engine is basically stock and doesn’t get raced at all.
All so im running a Weber progressive and it’s very tried and needs replacing but should I go with a stock pic 34 or another progressive?
Is the much to be gained with a progressive over a stock carb?
The rest of the engine is stock and so is the exhaust
Thanks all

There is definitely a decent gain (Not the difference between a Daily and Dragster, but a difference that is noticeable) in sticking with the 1641. If you drop the displacement, you'll be sorry. Been there, done that. Just calculate the percentage and it will make sense to you.

Also, the 1641 will like the larger carb better if you size up from the original 34pict... I once helped a fella swap over to a pair of dells from a single PICT34 (don't remember the size of the dells, but they were significantly larger in total Flow), and went from a car that would barely bark a tire on "the right pavement" to a car that would scorch the tires off the rims... Pretty much anywhere.
I have found them completely missing more than once. - PILEDRIVER

Thanks for the reply mate. I’ve decided to stick with the 1641 size engine
