Fitting a temperature sensor in the oil pressure relief piston hole

Hi all I believe that the oil pressure relief valve (the one at the pulley end) is to divert oil away from the cooler when it is cold but I was thinking of putting a temperature sensor in that hole and I’ve been told if I do this I have to remove the spring and piston is this correct ?
If so surly the cooler will bypassed ?

no, you don't have to remove the spring and piston, the sensor screws in the case instead of the cap
