So Leather asked me to start a thread on a new project I picked up. Wayne from SoCal Baja’s came across a few of these Chenowth military cars and I ended up buying 1. They are really cool cars with tons of good parts. The plan is to mainly just take it apart, clean and paint everything and put it back together. I want it to be useable so the gunners seat and cage will come off but I plan to modify both so I can bolt them back on as needed. We may also Switch the engine out for a Honda, cause, that’s just what you do

. Stay tuned.

This is going to be such a killer build. All the unique parts on this, figuring out how they built beyond the normal Chenowth build. Designed to be go a fast and very durable mission transport, very cool stuff. And oh yeah that Gunners seat, I can’t wait to take that ride.

Cool find! I've thought about building a scaled down dual Bofors cannon for the top of my rail. Remote control so I can elevate it and pivot it. My Wife said she wasn't going to bail me out of jail though!

No, she'd really leave me sitting in Jail! We're both retired Sheriff's Department. Yeah, she outranked me there too!

Are the dual cannons going to face backwards to help you climb and jump hills or for acceleration when you are being chased

So far I have talked to all the military guys I know. Unfortunately it looks like the Mark 19 grenade launcher and the 50 cal most likely won’t happen. I have been offered a potato gun but it’s just not the same. The good news is that I soaked the Heims that the shift rod pivots around in WD40 and freed that up. Seems to have all the gears so that is a good sign. Hoping to start the tear down this weekend. So far just been soaking stuff in hopes that it helps.

In a past life, I was part of the team that used those cars. They were mothballed in the 1990s after Gulf War 1 and we had to dig them out of storage in Kentucky (Special Operations Support Activity) to prep them for action in Afghanistan (2001). They were pretty much the only tactical cars available. We didn't have a lot of HMMWVs in the inventory and the one's we did have weren't configured for combat operations. Not the best for the Afghanistan terrain, but they served the purpose in a pinch.

Awesome, thanks for your service. The more I get into the car the more I am impressed with the construction. I started to strip it down today but decided to wait until my son can be home to help. Should have some updates this weekend.
