2056 cc build
Hey Guys, just joined group. I have a 1974 914, with an early 1.7 case and the remaining L-Jet fuel injection. I would like to build a 2056cc engine using my 1.7 block as a foundation. I plan on getting a new/ or used 2.0 3-bolt head with the correct 45' plug angles. I need some advice as to what kind of cam will I need and is highly recommended for such a build, I'm planning on getting new 96mm pistons/cylinders (but could use a recommendation as to which ones to use/buy. I've looked at various engine build kits, from Type-4 store, FAT Rimco, and SCAT. Am looking at either going with a newly built longblock 2056cc and assemble the rest or possibly go with a complete turnkey... but I would rather keep my L-Jet FI, as well as my current 123ignition bluetooth set-up. Not sure if the 123ignition works on carburetor conversions. I'm moving to Northern Arizona,, and will be driving in much higher altitudes (above 7000ft). I don't plan on tracking the car, want it as my daily driver. Any suggestions, comments or recommendations? All will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark

To use LJet you need to keep your cam to a mild FI compatible cam - stock grind is best. You will leave a little power on the table, but have a lot better drivability compared to a carb cam and carb. And of course you can use a bigger cam and modern EFI, but that comes with its own cost and headaches.
I have not used the 123 with Ljet, but can confirm that it works with DJet and suspect it will be fine with Ljet. It also works very well in carb conversions.

Assuming you plan to use cast iron cylinders, I would recommend European Motor Works.
