I was on Amazon the other day and I saw this. A Dorman M96382 Brake Master Cylinder Compatible with Select Volkswagen Models> Though it indicates that it is for 1973 through 1979 Super Beetles it is exactly what you would find on new 1971 through 1979 Super Beetles and Cabriolets. So if you are in the market for a new Master cylinder, this is a great price and as a bonus you get the low angle reservoir connections. The front reservoir connection needs to be flat or parallel with the ground. If it isn't it will hit the floor when the hose is attached and fluid will leak out of the master cylinder.
The price is great too. Even if you don't need it now but may be in the market for one consider this. Dorman is a great brand. (Dorman M96382 Brake Dual Master Cylinder for 1971-1979 VW Super Beetles).

This will not work on a Standard Beetle because of the arrangement of the attachment ears; at 1 and 7 o'clock. The Standard Beetle attachment ears are horizontal. This is also the MC that you would need if you have drum brakes or only front discs and rear drums. The cylinder bore is 3/4 inch or 19.05mm. This works for the original equipment front disc brakes and rear drum arrangement. I know because this is what came on my '72 Super when it was built in Germany and then remained in Germany for 43 years, 39 of which were in covered storage in Bavaria.
