I'm examining my exhaust system and realizing that I need to relocate the oil filter. Given that I'm currently working on an upright conversion, I'm wondering if there are any disadvantages to using a remote oil filter mount connected to my shroud-mounted cooler lines while blocking off the original oil filter location. Alternatively, should I consider running a separate set of lines from the stock filter location to the remote filter mount? Your input is appreciated.

The latter is what I would do.

The cooler ports will be bypassed (as least partially) when the oil is cold.

Bingo. The filter needs to be on the main feed from the pump, the cooler circuit flow with any restriction (like a filter) will be very minimal...
(IIRC FJCamper once called this setup "faux flow filtration"). this can be done with a cap that screws on in place of the filter, with lines feeding the remote tstat/filter/cooler loop, or you can make something that bolts on in place of the stock filter mount. (there are more ways to do this but the above are ~easy and work) A plugged outlet pump with a pump cover with an outlet also works/easy. get a cast iron cover, not aluminum.

Much better to have an oil thermostat after the filter on the main circuit and ditch the stock pressure based thermostat circuit.
...At least when modifying the stock setup, even with a bigger pump.
