I'm rebuilding a type 4 2l.
I purchased a new cam plug.
Is the cam plug the same for type 1 and 4.
It seems to fit, but not very snug. I've seen people tap them in with a hammer

The originals had a ridge around the middle and were a tight fit in a case half... not installable with the case together.
..the late versions are straight and have a bit of rubber around the od.

The advantage of the newer ones is you can insert them after case assembly.

The curse is they can come out driving down the road...

I have not personally had that happen to me because I refuse to use them because they look like a bad idea.

I assume they were developed by the same fellow who came up with easy install ACVW oil pumps.
Schadeck even makes one of the bolt holes a little tight so its not as obvious they slide in.
(typical cause of low hot oil pressure on newish engines)

My case does have the ridge along with the ridge on the cam plug. Its just not as tight as I thought it would be. Maybe when. The case halves are bolted together it would be a tighter Fit

Permatex 518 will keep things sealed up fine. Use that for the case halves etc.
A little goes a long way.

I think there's a case for tapping a thread in the hole and screwing a bung/sump plug with a parallel thread in there.
