Starts up, then seems to loose spark.

Carb has new needle and seat, closes and opens well, but the gas keeps pouring over somehow. Pinched the gas line, still pouring over. Runs for 5 seconds, then seems to loose the spark. Points light up at 7 1/2. Don't get it.

Could be the float is sticking or needs adjusting which could allow carb flooding.

Do you mean sticky needle seat, pushing up, then sticking to the top when full? Would that close off the fuel from coming in? Pic 30-1

There are several reasons for the float to stick allowing fuel to flow at a higher rate. Clean everything, check the float itself and its connections for problems (not sure how things are on what you are using so the general information), check the seat(s) and so on. If you have 2 carbs then clean and reset both of them would be a good idea.

Lee, Ok I took to a friend to have him look at it. At float level the needle seat still didn't close. Carb kit spec. says 1mm for needle seat. Somehow bought defective kit. We added 3 seat gaskets just to get it to stop the passing. Will try this tomorrow again. Put gas in the bowel and then pinch the line. Also has faulty idle screw in the kit that screws in a few threads. Sometimes you just have to ask another person with similar vw knowledge to complete the task. Thanks for the input.

Your more than welcome.

Sorry to hear about the defective kit but even a long time ago, defective kits were out there so you ask questions of others then... you pass that info on when someone else needs some help. Thats why good sites like this are still around.
