Stroker clearance with endplay, safe measurements

Hello all, in the late stages of test fitting a 84mm stroker build, first time doing this. It's a new aluminum case, pre clearanced, with cb rods and arp bolts. The crank endplay isn't set at all yet, and depending on where I push the crank in and out, it binds. I'm wondering what an acceptable distance between the side of the rods and the case material is, as I'm wondering if I need to shave a bit more off the case. Also, can I effectively check the endplay of the crank without torquing the flywheel all the way down? Flush is flush, I can't imagine the torque spec effects the measurements. Thanks!
