Adapter stub axles

Post by TequilaBaja »

Hello everyone. First post here

I'm looking for an adapter stub axle to use T2 cv's in a T1 trailing arm, but only found three options:

-EMPI
-Latest Rage
-CB performance

From these three, wich ones are the most reliable?
What other options are out there?
Considering that I'm in Mexico, I don't have easy access to porsche parts.
I'm on the look for Thing Stub axles, but they are really hard to find in good conditions

Thank you

Welcome Bob,
There are some Thing stub axles on TheSamba for sale, also Porsche 924/944 stub axles work too. I have been using the Empi microstub axles for at least 10 years with zero issues.
Good Luck

Good quality is getting harder and harder to find.

Early 924/944 stubs are easy to find.

Thanks for the info.

I see that 924/944 are easy to find in the US. But the seller must be eager to send them internationally and I to transfer them

I'll think if it's worth the risk while I try one last time to find them down here

Among the three options—EMPI, Latest Rage, and CB Performance—each has its pros and cons. The Latest Rage stub axles are known for forged chromoly construction and precise CNC machining, offering good reliability at a moderate price (~$70) and compatibility with various brake setups. EMPI parts have mixed reviews, with some users reporting decent service and others noting quality variability, but EMPI tends to be lower cost upfront; CB Performance generally offers higher-quality kits, but parts can be harder to source, especially outside the US.

Given your location in Mexico and limited access to Porsche parts, the Latest Rage stub axles are a solid balance between cost and quality and easier to find internationally. EMPI parts could be a budget fallback but may lack consistency. CB Performance might be better quality but less accessible in your region.

Regarding Thing stub axles, these are indeed scarce and often difficult to find in good condition globally, not just in Mexico. Your best bet may be sourcing new adapter stub axles designed specifically for T1 to T2 conversions from suppliers like Latest Rage or custom fabricators who offer forged chromoly options that fit Type 1 trailing arms with Type 2 CV joints.

In summary, Latest Rage offers the best reliability-to-cost ratio for your circumstances, with EMPI as a budget alternative and CB Performance as a premium but less accessible choice. Exploring chromoly forged conversion stub axles may also provide a durable alternative to scarce Thing stub axles.
