I have a project that won't run fast or far. Mostly around the ranch. So I have a '74 beetle pan/transaxle and a '62 1200 motor. Thinking of buying a '74 flywheel and a clutch kit and starter. Is there something else I need to contend with when mating this motor to the '74 uniy. Read something about that there is difference in rear main seals. Is there something I will have to do to mount this motor? Maybe change out the pilot bushing? Thanks for any help you can provide me. I do some mechanic work, but don't have experience with VW's.

The flywheel on early engines have a different seal arrangement so that could present a problem. The 6V cars had a different tooth count on the flywheel too.
The gearbox will have a 12V starter motor and release bearing suited to the later clutch.
So it will need a careful pairing of the parts.

From the pics you can see that you have an early clutch and a late trans. So I would suggest to buy a new clutch for late model (you may be able to just remove the center ring that contacts the throw out bearing, but being old and rusty a new clutch makes better sense) . If the flywheel is an early 180mm unit you will need to replace it with a later 200mm. While you have the flywheel off go ahead and replace the main seal.
