Type 4 turbo in a speedster rep

Post by GARRICK.CLARK1 »

Hi Guy's.
I'm building a speedster rep at the moment.
I had a type 4 turbo motor in a 67 bug. Sold that, kept the engine.
It felt unsafe , no matter how I set up the suspension. Always felt heavy on the rear end.
Do you think this motor in a speedster rep , with it being on a shorter vw chassis will be more stable.
Has anyone done a t4 turbo a speedster rep before , and is active on here.

Hipo T4 is not that much heavier than a bone stock t1 with heat exchangers.
Hipo tr cant really use the stock t4 heat exchangers as they are a huge limiter.
A gas or diesel heater install in the trunk works much better anyway.

Have put t4s in early super and a squareback. weight difference was not remotely noticable, but both cars got lowered a little and beefed up to take the additional power, wider rims, more tire, revalved Bilstein shocks or coil overs etc.

Should be a blast in a speedster..
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Thank's PileDriver.
The motor has an oval port stainless 1 piece. I'm wondering if the tubes that drop down from the ports will be too low and end up getting bashed about. The engine bay is huge in comparison to a bug. I'd probably need to cut the merge off the pipes and position it verticle ,so the 3 bolt triangle mount is horizontal looking.

Unless you are going swing axle you have a lot of freedom engine and transmission height wise.
Even if you do for historical reasons, those tubes and the exhaust shouldn't go below the engine sump.
Can't visualize the exact issue without pictures.

Those cars are selling for far more than the originals did not that long ago, back when we were kids they could be had for a few grand in not running but all there shape, much like early 911s and hemi `cudas or superbirds.

Hi Piledriver.
I've not got pics of it. I could take some. The lowest point on this header is possibly the height of the flat underside of a type 4 heater changer when bolted to the heads.
Rear is 1 spline down. Needs to be 1 down so as the car looks right. Rolling on 165 80 15's.
I'll only know if it gunna work is if I do a trial fit i suppose.
