Rear sway bar link bushings installation

Post by papak »

I have read that the trick is to heat the bushings in hot water to about 200 degrees and then press them in. I have tried this and it remains a real challenge. Any other ideas?

Which ones are you using? What material? Also what are you pressing them in with?

This type of link bushing is tough on many cars. I use a bolt through the center with some fat washers under the head large enough in OD to not go through and a short length of pipe nipple on the other side with some decent non-petroleum lubricant on the bushing. Put a nut and fat washer on the bolt sticking through the pipe nipple...hold the head with a wrench an tighten the nut to kind of pull the bushing in.

Dishwashing liquid, I keep a bottle of Dawn in the shop for this sort of thing, works awesome on spark plug boots too for inserting the wires. A drop does wonders, makes putting a T1/T3/Bus windshield in a 2 minute affair with some soap covered insulated 12 ga wire for the pull cord.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
