passenger side rear view mirror

Would like to install a outside mirror on passenger side on 74 Super Beetle. It appears that the drivers side was oem. Is the passenger side already tapped on the inner dor frame and covered by the outer door skin? Suggested installation procedure ?

Since the VW was sold in both left and right hand drive, I think the passenger door has the nut welded in place for the mirror, just like all the holes for the pop out windows are already there.

Maybe you can reach up there by taking the door panel off and using a bent coat hanger to check.

Good Luck,

Mike

When I installed the right side mirror on my '69 bug, this is what i did. The hole is there in the inner structure but you have to add the nut thing to it (all inside the door). I got this piece from RMMW. You have to pull the vent window and frame assembly out to access this area. You then poke a small hole in the right spot of the outer door panel and then make it larger so that it lines up correctly and is not too big. I used a small die grinder and behive.

That could be the number, haven't seen the catalog for awhile. Its a little round sucker with 3 ear-like things sticking out from it. It is pretty much a pull it in with the mirror kinda thing and then seems to be "one with the door".

The mirror on the door hinge could work but it doesn't even come close to matching the other side. Not acceptable in my book.

I have ran across identical MATCHING mirrors . They are available from ISP West

http://www.vwispwest.com/

They are Mexican made I haven't put them on a car yet. The Chrome looks good but I don't know how they hold up. I am going to use them as daily driver mirrors on my Notch and save my VERY rare, Very early ones for shows and my nos T3 ones for ?

Besides the only other matching ones are for Verts and are Really $pendy. These were really reasonable. Tell them that I told ya about them if you ask ISP.

Or you could save all that trouble and get the kind of mirror that goes into the door hinge. It was like this on older model VW's, but since you want a mirror on the passenger side you probably aren't too worried about keeping it stock. These set ups are much easier than finding that hole and getting the hardware in there.

This is what we used to do at the VW Dealer to add a right mirror to Bug sedans without using the "million dollar" inside adjust right mirror kit. Get a Karmann Ghia outside mirror mount, it mounts w/2 small screws & has a chrome cover that snaps over to hide the mounting stuff. Use a 68+ Beetle Convert right outer mirror, it screws right to the Ghias mount, looks factory too.
