Do you lower a type 3 the same way as you do a beetle? My car is a 68 and I need to drop the front end about 1.5 inches.
thnx

NO, the front of the type 3 is a completely different beast and is actually a lot easier to lower. There's no cutting or adjusters needed. There was a full feature article in Hot VWs about 4? years ago, but I did mine without the instructions. There are inner and outer splines on the torsion bars up front (not leaves like in a type 1 or 2) and you can get a pretty exact measurement for a drop.
If you have back copies of Hot VWs, take a look, if not let me know and I'll see if I can dig it up and paraphrase it or scan it for you. I don't have a type 3 anymore so it would be hard for me to remember where all of the work needs to be done so I won't guess right now.

Send me an email and I'll see what I can come up with.
Figure on a full day at least to get it right but once you figure it out it goes a lot faster (if you decide to raise it back up or lower it further).

Try this site out. I believe somewhere in there is a procedure to use and some things to watch out for.

There are some good links for T3 stuff there, too.
Pick yourself up a Bently manual and you will not regret it, money spent wisely. 1 spline or two is about all that is really practicle for street use (some people's opinion of "practicle" vary widely
) and it also depends on rim and tyre selection you are using or contemplating. T3s are a difficult car to get the right tyre/whee/stance right-on and still be a pleasure to drive. I'm being sort of conservative with mine (it's on my site listed in my profile) on the ride height.
Hope this helps
