Floor Jack for Engine Install?

Post by cdadaa »

What is the best floor jack to use to install and pull engines? How high of a lift on the jack is needed for the most efficient operations? I'm going to buy a floor jack and it has to be for other jacking operations as well as vw engine installs? What do others use for this work?

Thanks...Dan

i got mine at costco . it has a high lift and has worked well for the last 8 years .just look for one that has a high lift, a wide foot , and make sure that it to full extension in as few pumps as possable . i have a cheap one i got at shucks with a couple of jack stands that takes like 30 pumps to get it all the way up

if you only have one you will need some jack stands.I have one good blackhawk 2.1/4 ton
and a junk one.I use the good one for the car and the cheap one for the engine, and let the car down and pump it up a little a volia engine is in car.if you don't get one that goes high enough for the engine to clear the rear apron you will need to slide the engine under the car first.
