Sean,
The suspension is similar in design to the Vanagon (T25). We'd be interested in hearing how they compare. Keep us posted.

As for the transaxle, I believe that the T25 transaxle has the hockey stick located towards the bottom of the nose cone, whereas the T25 hockey stick is towards the top. I could be wrong, as I'm not an expert on the T25, but check this when you compare the transaxles.

A 103x71 (2366cc) would definitely be a kick in the Type 4. As to an approximate bhp, we'll need to know some more details of the combination you want to run. Stuff like heads, valve size, cam, intake system, exhaust system, ignition, etc. I'd approximate a mild 2366 would be in the range of 110-130hp. Obviously this could be higher, it all depends on your budget and what you want out of the car.

If you are looking for something a bit more streetable and easier to drive, I'd go with a 96x78 (2258cc). The 103 cylinders have sealing problems after 20-30,000 miles, and the added stroke of the 2258 would increase torque in the low range, great for around town driving.

Sean, a hint for taking the engine out/putting it back easier - undo the inspection panel under the back seat, unscrew the large nut (can't remember exactly what its called) on the back of the gearbox and you can gain access to pull the gear drive rod forward.

Neal

PS. I found a suitable box for the trim and will pack it tonight. I have to go to an exhibition with work tomorrow so I'll post it next day delivery on Thursday. Hope that's OK.
