fuel for 412 VW

Dumb question, but what kind of fuel does the 412 use? Normal gasoline or diesel?

I live in the UK and use a combination of Super Unleaded (97 RON octane) and occasionally leaded Four Star (99 RON octane) - the latter is still available from a small select number of gas/petrol stations.

Normal Premium Unleaded is 95 RON - type four engines prefer higher octane (the sticker on my 412 fuel filler cap says 98 RON minimum). You could use normal premium unleaded with an octane booster.

I use Super Unleaded in my 411. I find that using regular unleaded causes a loss of power, and possibly pinking/detonation. She somtimes has the treat of a tank of 4-star too!

I agree...my 412 does great on 92 and 93. It will run well on 89...but occasionally pinks. I do notice a power loss on 89. Probably some detonation going on that is getting compensated for by head temp sensor...as it does run wrmare and gets lees gas milage on lower octane. Ray
