74 fastback

The '74 fastback sedan came out in South Africa with a 1679cc ("1700") four cylinder, four stroke horizontally opposed ("Boxer") air cooled engine (quite a mouthfull!) I know that they were available with 1800cc engines in other countries, but not here. This engine should not be confused with the Type 1 (Beetle) engine, as it is a total different design. Most '74 models (the 412), came with a Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection.

Usually a 1.7 liter with L-type injection..depending on what month of 74. sept and october, it still could have been D-type. The wagons from late 73 on were being fitted...some not all with 1.8. There could have optionally been one in the fastback fourdoor. Ray
