EFI Auto to Carbs?

Dear Type 4 Friends
What are the implications of fitting a complete twincarb T4 engine to an automatic 412 that currently has Fuel Injection (Bosch D-Jetronic)? What is the purpose of the vacuum pipe running to the box, and can I connect this pipe to the balance pipe between the 2 carbs (SOLEX 34) for the same effect?
