3 412 Wagons and 1 sedan

Post by Pillow »

Hi there,

I am new to the 411/412 arena but have good experience with the VW bus T4 engines.

I came across a guy this weekend who was selling a few busses which I am interested in, he also has 4 T4 cars that are in various stages of disrepair. They seem to have been sitting since the early 80s! The guy has 3 wagons and 1 sedan, all autos and some with A/C. Two of the wagons seem pretty good and very easy to restore. One of the wagons is parts in my opinion, but might be savable if you want. The last one is a sedan which is really cool, if I had more room I would keep this one (wife thinks we own a junkyard already)!

Basically would anyone be interested in parts or buying the vehicles whole? All have FI in tact and reported as running when parked. Clear GA titles. All parts are on them! Also there are some brand new VOA mufflers for them to.

Basically if there is interest I will pick up the whole batch and try to do some creative negotiating... Fearful I will have to do a 30 day bank loan to float the cash if I get all the stuff (8 cars in all).

Basically the seats are good, maybe very small tear here and there (except junk car). All lenses are in tact minus one or two which can be taken off the parts car. Every engine I checked had oil in it and turned over. Even the carpet looks good! I will not part out the 3 good ones, I want them to be restored. Whoever buys them does not need a welder, just sand blast some paint peeling and paint it and roll. Of course the engine seals will probably need refreshed, but no big deal. Some have complete A/C system which might please the wifes Image Of course the tires are shot, some seem to be original bis ply. I think the highest mile car is 67K original.

If no one is interested I will not bother, but I think they will be an easy restore for anyone interested. I am guessing $600-750 each depending on towing costs to my place, Atlanta GA. Heck from what I hear this is a very fair price even for a junker. Used motors usually go for $500 alone!

Also the junk one I am planning to use to make the others complete whenever possible. Every car should have complete lenses and accessories. The only thing I want out of the parts car is the engine and gas heater, anything else can be yours.

The only thing I ask for if interested is rapid pickup from my house (before the neighbors or wife kills me). A solid commitment, no BS heein' and hawin'. I an estimating the first weekend in March to bring them in and pickup to be the second weekend in March.

Reply here or drop me a private e-mail at apillow@manh.com

Thanks,

Maybe I was a little unclear in my descriptions earlier. These are very easy restos!

They have been sitting outside since the early 80s and have some paint peeling on the tops. Grind it off apply POR-15 and go to MAACO for el cheepo paint job. Change fluids, tune-up, battery, and give it a try.

Apparently the 3 restorable ones have been driven in the last year or two. The parts one has not moved at all for many years (tires flat and sunken in the ground and filled with owners stuff - and you thought only busses were good for that Image ). All have FI, no carbs. From what I remember all the dashes are cracked which sucks.

I think I will pick them up anyway if I can get a good deal and see what happens.

In further thinking I would actually keep one of the wagons since it is the most practical for my needs. Read: roof rack

Maybe in a few weeks I can get a digicam and post some pictures.

Also I have a motor builder friend with in the box sets of T4 1.7L P&Cs with the top domed pistons. These are Kubleschmidt (KS) and still in the cosmoline... Sitting for years.

Not sure how much he wants for them, but probably reasonable. Definately less than paying retail at a parts store!... Not even sure if you can still get domes?

So if you pick up one of the 412s you know you have parts available for the motor just in case.

But if you run the domes you will have to run premium fuel.

Sure thing Ray! I should be visiting the guy in a few weeks and will get back to you then.

Also he is parting out a 412 Wagon if anyone needs parts. It would be an easy car to restore but it has no engine or tranny.
Seems pretty complete.

Ask him why there he does not have more 41X cars and he said that he cannot give them away and so he does not take them in at all these days.

Hey Ast,

Sure we could work something out. There is one 412 that is definately a parts car.

The tranny will not work for you if you plan to put it in a bus, saw your post over there Image At least from my knowledge the T4 tranny is a unique beast...

Would you want an unknown engine or a rebuilt one? With FI or not?

I have to admit if you just want an "unknown" engine finding one locally would be a better plan if at all possible. Shipping on a motor can be expensive alone! Woof.

But it if you want a rebuilt one that is doable.
