I'm looking at and learning about my new 1974 412 sedan (4/74), engine code EC..., and cannot for the life of me find where a loose hose coming from the air cleaner should be connected to. The part number for the air cleaner (square) is 022-129-607. I have searched the web for info about this air cleaner in regards to my engine, but have come up blank.
Everything else in regards to the fuel injection (l-jetronic?) seems to be in place. I just can't find an opening anywhere to connect this hose to.
where should this hose lead?

forgot to mention, it's the hose that is nearest you when you stand at the back of the car. in pictures of the circular air cleaner, it's the one that's called "crankcase breather hose" - don't know if that helps.

It might be the one that goes from the air cleaner to the breather pipe next to the oil filler.
Alternatively it may connect to a breather pipe on the right hand side of the engine on the level with the tinware next to the inlet manifolds.
Have a feel or a look with a torch and the air cleaner removed. It won't be much further than the length of the hose!

thanks, specky, but i still cannot find any open inlet. after looking into it more, i think my air cleaner, air flow meter and elbow are configured differently than most. could this be a california thing? i have a breather hose coming off the elbow and connected to the oil filler. so then i think this loose hose must be for the crankcase breather, but nothing comes up there, anywhere.

Well...It could be a PCV hose that went to either head. Or it could lead to the charcoal canister hose. Sometimes they had a connector near the air claeaner that connectedit to the hose that went to the charcoal cannister. There should only be two hoses that ever actually go into the air cleaner box. One is from the air cleaner to a flame trap/splitter that then plumbs into each rocker box to provide PCV....the other is a hose coming into the air box from the charcoal cannister. Ray

a-ha! thanks, ray.
it is the hose that connects to the charcoal canister. the thing is now, that i don't have a charcoal canister, so i connected it to the fuel filler breather hose directly. i have to get this smogged soon, so i'll need the canister to help the results, correct?
