installing charcoal canister

hi. The canister goes under the car, under the drivers side back seat. There should be a strap for it. OK, the side of the canister with 2 hoses points toward the passenger side (in an American Version). the small hose goes to a tube (very small) under the car on the passenger side. Hope this helps, let me know if you need more info! SMILES

installing charcoal canister

Post by alicheat »

Hi there,

For a 1974 412 sedan:

I'm installing a new charcoal canister where there wasn't one before. Since I don't have a reference to go from, could you tell me:

In which direction does it sit? Does the end with two tubes go towards the air cleaner or the fuel filler? and to where does the second (smaller) hose on one end of the canister go? what kind of hose should this smaller one be?

Thanks in advance,

Alicia

Thanks Dale,
But what is that smaller hose for anyway? That will give me a better clue. I don't see a loose one ending where the canister would fit.

The smaller hoses, attached to 3mm vacume line that attaches to 3mm metal tubes that run up to the firewall behind the gas tank. They attach to short 3mm hoses that go to each end of the top of the fuel tank. They are accessable under a pair of access plates that are on either side of the fuel sending guage unit on the deck in the trunk under the carpet. Ray
