Hello all-
Due to financial reasons, I'm having to sell my 1973 412 4-door. The car is in great overall shape and has been my daily driver for almost 2 years. I’ll try and describe her as best as I can.
1973 412 4-door
3 speed automatic transmission
1700cc Fuel Injected engine
130,000 miles
Current tags and inspection, clear title
There is very little rust on this car. There is a little under the rear fenders and just a bit on the rear trunk. The floor is rusted under the battery as well, but it’s easily repairable. VERY SOLID CAR.
The body is very very straight. There is one ding (about 1") on the front left fender near the ground. The car has been repainted the original red. It's not perfect, but looks pretty good.
The transmission still shifts strongly, but sometimes hunts between 2nd and 3rd gear. If you start from a stop in “2” it shifts fine from 1st to 2nd and then slide it to “D” it shifts fine into 3rd. If you start from a stop in “D”, it shifts from 1st to 2nd, quickly into 3rd, and back into 2nd, and finally, as you accelerate, back into 3rd. I’ve traced the problem to a faulty auto transmission modulator (the diaphragm in the modulator is broken). I’ve located a place in California that has good used ones for $5, but just never got around to ordering one.
The front end needs the two inner tie rods replaced. The replacement tie rods come with the car.
The hood release cable has broken where it attaches in the glove box. I use a pair of vise grips directly on the cable to open the hood.
The gas heater does not work.
The windshield was replaced with a NOS one about 3 years ago, and there is no cracks or chips in it. The windshield gasket was replaced with an NOS one as well. It was professionally installed, and looks perfect.
The dash has 4 cracks in it, but is almost perfect for a 30 year old car.
The interior is in good shape, the rear seat is almost perfect! The front seats are torn and need to be redone. The headliner is beautiful!
The original Sapphire XIX radio still works fine.
I installed a stainless steel exhaust about a year ago.
Accessories that I’ve added over the last two years:
Chrome window shades
Chrome side and rear grille covers
Chrome OEM trailer hitch
OEM floor mats
The fuel injection works great! The fuel pump was replaced with a new Bosch one about a year ago, and about 18 months ago I replaced two of the injectors.
I'm asking $2500, and that includes my parts stash. Some of the goodies: spare plastic air intake and rubber bellows (in almost perfect shape), a rebuilt factory distributor and a used distributor, rear brake shoes, NOS wiper motor, spare gas heater, 2 Boge NOS Front Strut inserts, 2 NOS rear shocks, 3 pair of new ball joints, complete set of tie rod ends, 1 NOS outside mirror in box, 2 spare headlight trim surrounds, 1 complete set of all marker lenses, 2 front brake caliper rebuild kits, 2 or 3 spare e-brake cables, 2 speedo cables, 2 NOS VW factory cv boots, spare gauge, 2 spare plastic strut tower caps, spare gas cap, spare misc knobs trim, lots of hard to find chrome trim spares, chrome wheel arch spares, spare rear valance (slotted), 2 NOS heater boxes brand new, spare overhead interior light , 1 spare sachs steering damper shock, spare rubber handbrake boot, and probably a few other goodies.
