Hello all,
If you don?t mind I?ll try my hand at asking a question?(or two)
I have dual 36mm Dellorto?s on a ?79 2.0 L VW Transporter, and am having problems with the carb?s getting fuel to the cylinders. I have just installed rebuild kits in each, and am (~absolutely) sure all passages are clean, (when blowing through with the air compressor according to the Supertech manual I have air pressure where it should be.) I have the original floats in them, and these are painstakingly set at spec?s for movement. Several times.
What I am seeing is that the carb closest to the fuel pump, (measured with pressure gauge), reads just under 4 PSI, with the second card reading 3.75 PSI. The Accelerator pump does deliver gas when called for, but the idle circuit adjustments are dead. The first carb has gas in the bowl to about 18mm below the deck, the second carb gas level is considerably less, right around 24mm below the deck.
According to the manual the float bowl level should be just below the ports for the idle circuit (there are no real spec?s I can find here, I am depending on someone?s drawing ability), but I have had no luck adjusting the floats to bring the level anywhere near this and am wondering if my problem(s) are from something(s) else. At this point I realize that the floats need replaced, but as I said I don?t believe this is the entire problem and hesitate to spend $50 blindly. Before the rebuild they worked fine on the Bus, after rebuild the cylinders act the same with plug wires on or off.
Is there anyone out there who has had to wade through this problem?
Thanks for any help,
RicK
