Rear Torsion Bar Adjustment

OK,
After 8 months of 50%-Gluteal fixes, I'm finally resigned to adjusting the rear torsion bars on my 70 Ghia (IRS). Looking in the Haynes manual,it says I gotta remove the diagnal arm, and disconnect the hub from the tranny. Please - somebody tell me it aint that bigga PITA! Also if someone can give me an idea of how many splines = how much lift
