What size is my engine?
Hey all, today I just bought a 67 coupe... the usual rust, NO front end or rear end damage ever. The entire car is complete with all the original parts intact but I think the engine is from another car. What size engine originally came with a 67 ghia? And how can I tell what size is in there now?

What size is my engine?
1967 was the first year of the 44bhp 1500cc engine in the Ghia. Just below the generator pedestal, under the word "Zundfolge" there may be an alpha-numeric engine number (assuming it's a German, not South American engine). Let us know this number, and we can probably tell when it was made.

What size is my engine?
OK, the engine number starts with 'H' so I guess it would be a 1500cc. I hate to get rid of it because its rebuilt but I need something with more power. It would be great for someone thats keeping their car stock. Now I want to sell it and get a 1600cc put in it. How much could I get for it?

not much difference in the 1500 to 1600 unless you start doing some mods,
save your money and do the engine up right.

I'm definately looking forward to fixing it up to go fast.. 150hp or more... would a 1600 be better to do this?

The 1600 dual port is the best stock engine to start with if you insist on hopping it up. Period. But you'll never get 150 hp out of it with a whole lot of cash, and your chassis couldn't handle it, anyway. If it was me, I'd put a brand new 1776cc in it. I'm sure you'd be delighted silly with the power, and you'd spend less time than building up a used 1600. Plus, it'd be done by professionals, so you wouldn't have any trouble with the engine.

I was thinking more along the lines of a 1915cc but I don't know much about engines so I have no clue where to start.. I'm mostly a body work man. The plan is to sell my 1500 and get something more but I doubt anyone will be interested in a smaller engine, plus I don't know what its worth. It's rebuilt..

I see your problem. I went through the same thing. YOU WANT TO GO FAST....But all you keep hearing is your car wont handle that or this or whatever. Also skip the 1600 cc idea, too much money would need to be dumped into that to make it fast. Well hell with what they say. I have a 69 ghia with a 2.5 liter in it. I make 263 rear wheel horse power and still have a solid chassis. Go get whatever kinda motor you want and through a 72 through 74 bus bar on the bottom of that motor. Also if you choose to grab the Gene Berg kit which helps support the rear horns. And then you will be all set. My biggest recomendation for you is...If you dont know too much about engines but want some good power. Go get a Stock type 4 motor preferably 2.0 and have a ball.
