aftermarket oil filter??\'s

Post by vwkurt »

My dad is thinking of putting on a oil pump mounted oil filter onto his 69 single cab. I am wondering if anyone can tell me if it will interfere with the rear engine bracket. Also, does anyone have any recommendations of what brand or type to use?

Another question is that he wants to ditch the dual 40mm webers and wanted to know if stock type 3 dual carbs will work on his 1600 dual port. Will the type 3 linkage work, or would he need to get an aftermarket linkage set up?
Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure about the interference part, but use only OEM...they flow better than Fram, Puroltaor and most of whats common. Good brands are: Mann, Bosch,Kneckt,Mahle and tecnofilter. All are Gernman except for the last, it is Italian...and is about as good as the others. Beck arnley dealers, VW dealers...and almost any German Car dealer will have a filter of one of those brands that fit....usually for pretty cheap. Ray

VWKURT, I am faced with the same problem with my 69 single cab. I don't know of any way to install a filter pump on these as the rear support is in the way. I don't think there is room for the standard type of fullflow setup. CB Performance offers the Maxipump 3 for this setup. Makes it a full flow. I am going to go that way and add a filter and external cooler to mine. I don't think that he will be happy with the type 3 carbs. The Webers are better all around.

The rear hanger bar will not facilitate a regular filter-sump setup. The only options you have are a CB Maxi Pump 3 (what I use and it is great), to tap the case for full-flow (need to disassemble motor and machine it), or a filter sump setup that CB also sells.

Is your dad looking for better fuel economy or something? What size motor and any modifications?

... Also if you do not need those carbs anymore lemme know Image
