Try heating the nut and then applying WD 40. Then reheat and attempt to remove the nut.

get a 3/4 inch breaker with adapter, then a length of pipe, 1/2 break all the time.
also might try to tighten it first. dont know what size hammer you got but a 24 ounce or bigger is best

Find a business that handles (large) truck wheels and tires. They'll have a 3/4" to 1" air driven impact wrench that will be able to remove your axle nut. Take the bus there(by the way, I'm jealous!) and have them loosen it. Most likely the dude will do it for free. Any-who, then tighten it back up for the trip home. Now, when it's your turn, it'll be a piece of cake.
You did remove the cotter pin, right? Not meaning to insult you, just that this can happen to anyone, especially if there is a small section of pin left in the hole.
Let us know how it goes.

How about the 36mm metal plate tool and a 10lb sledge hammer?

It works, really.

Otherwise off to a heavy truck place to zap it.
