IRS in Split Question???

Post by DaveB »

For you folks that have an IRS Setup and done it yourself. What was the angle you initially set the Spring Plates at?

To my knowledge no one on this list has actually completed the swap or done it themselves...

Type2Guy is the most knowledgable guy I know of about this conversion here.

What setup are you doing? Bug IRS? Late Bus IRS? I see you say DIY. Do you mean something you put together yourself....or a kit you bought that your installing yourself?

A good way to go with any of this is to go to the bus-boys website and find the kit that most resembles what your doing. Have those guys send you the installation instructions for that kit...they'll fax them and may even email them to you in .PDF format. Just tell them your interested in seeing how the kit goes in before you buy. They're real cool about helping out.

Hope that helps a little.

I bought the kit from Creative Engineering. The one where you cut out the frame horns and weld there's in. Good instructions but they don't give any recommendations on setting the Springplates. I just want to get a basic starting point. Checkout there deal.

Why wouldn't you set them at the same angle as with the swing axle? Unless the "lever arm" (center of torsion bar to center of wheel) has changed in length? Does your kit use the original torsion bars? If not then you will have to compensate for the change in the lever arm and the spring rate of the bar to get the rear to the proper ride height. Looks like you might have to experiment Image
