Oliver told me they would not clear the decklid even when used with shorty Riechert manifolds. THat is the reason the MBT black beetle has the raised portion welded into the lid right over the #2 stack.
However, TWM has IDA pattern throttle bodies which are just like an IDA but half as tall. Those would clear probably.

Won't clear, no way. A friend up here had that combo in his baby window (Oval) and has about 4" of stand-off. It's the yellow and white Bug on my website on the "friends page". No sheet metal cutting required, though.
He currently has the engine in a '67 911 (911.5?) and will be going vintage racing next year with it. After he gets the 2 liter 6 back in it.

Well, I have to correct this. He has a FAT (?) offroad fan shroud and that's the reason for the hugh standoffs, plus he likes it like that. Had to double check and get the facts straight. Sorry about that. 11/01/00

48 IDA´s will fit under lid. Some minor trimming needed on right stack. I use CB manifolds on my T4 in a 59 T1. BeWare of the intake opening area as it seams as if my engine don´t get all the air it needs so decklid was raised 4 " in bottom, that means no trimming

Jake measure the difference that one sticks out to far and the other sticks back to far and see if there would be room to center the carbs in the middle of the engine and shut the engine lid. If so you could make intake manifolds that were offset foward on one side and offset rearward on the other. I am in the process of making up a set for my super 1600 single port. Basically all you need is flanges for the heads and flanges for the carbs. If you do it right the linkage would be straight across. The tubing connecting the two flanges could be any diameter or length you want. On my heads the intake valve port and the intake port are both 28mm. Any larger size would cause me to lose velocity and I would still have the 28mm bottleneck. I have tapered a muffler expansion device(You use it to expand a muffler tube to slid on the same size tube, kinda like where aftermarket headers are expanded to fit on the heater boxes, JC Whitney) to give me a smooth transition from the 34mm carb base to the 28mm tube. If your measurements are right the left side will be the same as the right side only backwards. The bends will be slight and you can bend them by hand with a conduit bender slowly or a muffler shop can bend them for you. A thicker walled tubing will not be crushed by the bend. You will have four tubes instead of two as I have. When you get all the measurements and angles right and you weld it up and it works you can sell them to the unsupecting T1 crowd with a little modification and make lots of money. Mr Phleps if any portion of this option is revealed as fact the email will self destruct. Just a thought.

They WILL fit, but you have to clearance the velocity stack on #2.
Also, here's a tip that almost nobody knows about! You have to jet Cylinders #2 and #4 DIFFERENT than #1 and #3, since the decklid is so close to the velocity stack that it disrupts the airflow to those cylinders at speed (over 60mph).

Will 40/45 mm dellortos fit on a type 4 under the decklid of my 66 beetle?
