carb probs i think

got a 66 type 1 with a 70 1600sp carb and dist are from 66 engine was told dist wont be a problem carb is pict 30 #1. set timing at 0 tdc and engine wont start unless timing is set back to 20 btdc and throttle is held down and turned back to 0tdc. like it is getting no fuel new points plugs cap rotor cond wires and all valves adjusted. car will only run at like 20 btdc with idle speed screw turned in all the way idle air screw does nothing

did you do your own tune-ups?for me the dwell in the points was a pain and upgrading i went to a petronix.It was a big help.has this problem just happened? if it did and you think its the carb.hell yeah pull the carb off and give it a good soak in carb cleaner,not to0 long,and air hose the passages.one of my bugs has a 1600 single port,30/31 pict,runs grand but slow
