Hi everybody-
First off let me tell you a little about my bug. About 2 months bought a '73 Bug with a fresh 1600 motor in it for $900 and over the time I've been looking to improve the performance of the motor.
Today my friend took me to a junkyard where he showed me a bug which had a long block sitting in the driver's seat. I was going to just buy the heads off of it so I have a spare set when I port and polish my heads in the near future. When I pulled the heads I discovered it had alum. push rods and slip in 87mm jugs in the motor! the rear end of the motor looked as if someone had taken a sledge to it so I decided to just take the pistons out of it. Now I was looking at the heads tonight while I was cleaning them up and noticed the valve springs and retainers, look beefier and they are a nice shade of aluminum then the stock ones. SO I was wondering if there is anyway to tell if these are HD valve spings. I wouldn't be surprised if they arn't considering this motor had alum. pushrods and 87mm jugs on it. who knows what was inside the motor.. hmm
thanks and sorry about the length.
