little metal piece broke off distributor......

also, I took off the distributor cap and found a small metal "pill" in the bottom of the distributor. It came from the center electorde coming into the distributor(from the battery, right?), but on the inside of the distributor. There's a spring in there that I think forces the metal onto the top of the rotor and makes the connection. What is this piece called? I have to replace it right? I don't want to buy a whole new distributor. Thanks!

If you're talking about the small metal piece that's supposed to be in the center of the distributor cap, don't sweat it. Buy a new cap. See ya!

buy a cap and rotor, cost is minimal, put a new set of points in it too if they are worn.
