Ready to go Type 4 kits

Post by Joseph »

Jarno,
Apparently, there are many posters that can't
log on, but as announced on RAMVA- there are
two sources for ready to assemble Type 4 Kits.
Yesterday, Jake, at Air cooled Technology
(rabysvw@whitelion.net) announced and so did
John at (Aircooled.net). Check them both out
for your answers.
Riechert's cooling system does not have
compensation for belt stretch (same problem
with Corvair). Riechert has since (late '80's
used this system, but is now marketing the
more conventional UPRIGHT 911 shroud as well.

Glad to be back online and am curious what exactly these "kits" are all about.

Most my parts came from Germany and even my motor will be shipped from Germany.
the T4 is big in Germany and they have quite a few excellent tuners there like Power Tuning Parts, Kumetat, Remmele (France), Tafel and so on. The parts I got were still cheaper with shipping and duty I had to pay.
The Deutsch Mark is weak now which makes Germany the place to buy. They have top quality parts that they developed for the KaeferCup Racers.

Alexander,
Kumetat is no doubt the best Type 4 "head"
man in Germany for at least the last 12
years. I have'nt seen anyone here in the
states weld up the top of the intake runners
on the Type 4 head- at least not yet.

Joseph,

when I get my motor I will make some pics.
It is a Kumetat 2.6 that Oliver at PTP has right now to do his 6 studding. Oliver knows Kumetat quite well. When I was in Germany Kummi was and still is the man for T4 but other shops caught up with him. I got such a sweet deal on that motor that I could not resist. Oliver is doing the fine tuning for me like reducing the CR and changing the cam and other neat stuff. I got the engine from a guy that went back to university and he got it from a guy that payed Kummi to build it and the motor was never used afterwards.

Can not wait to get it and to drive my bug.

Joseph,
What do you mean the only person welding up the tops of the intake runners? My heads from Oliver Knuf at Power Tuning Parts will have the inlet ports welded up.

Hey Steve,

welcome back.
Like I mentioned a few shops have caught up with Kumetat and PTP Knuf is one of them.
There are actaully some smaller companies like Klaus and Holzapfel that do excellent T4 work.

Joseph,
I'm glad we can get along.
I didn't quote you, I was asking a question about your post (no quotes though Image).
I didn't read your post correctly the first time, which is easy to see. Simply correcting me when I'm wrong works perfectly fine, I'm not like some people that take is personally.

I'll post pictures of my welded Power Tuning heads when I receive them. Of course they aren't made in America, BUT they are going to lay some serious rubber down here!
