anyone still paint with lacquer anymore and is it worth it??

...you will find very few people using Laquers...mostly for nostalgic reasons. Laquer is a very soft paint..the durability (chip resistance and lasting shine) just isn't there. For a single stage "original" look check out PPG's concept paint..gets a litytle clear mixed into the third coat...very nice very strong. For a base clear system, check out Dupont's Chroma line...what exact look are you trying for?

painting in the backyard..i heard with lacquer u can do this...do they clear coat the stuff for longer lasting??

The modern base coat/clear coat systems are very easy to paint and get great results. I painted my S-10 Blazer in my garage several years ago and it turned out great.

You can't paint over laquer with a clear coat because laquer continues to breath. Also, if you live in a place like Florida or Cali your paint will chaulk out rather quickly when you use laquer. Just remember laquer is extremely old technology. I used Dupont Chroma base and clear and it is expensive. I paid around 1000 for a gallon of yellow base and a galon of clear. The yelow was around 450 for the gallon. Paint prices have goten crazy because of taxes slapped on it.
