pan gasket- original?

I thought of this when i bolted my body back onto my pan last month, after cursing with fitting the $%^& gasket to the *&^%$ pan- did Things come with a pan gasket originally? My parts car didn't have one, and the body seems to have never been removed from the pan, which is what got me to thinking. any answers?
