I was looking for my favorite Hot Rod magazine, Car Kulture Deluxe and saw one of their other magazines called "Barracuda" which is like a hotrod lifestyle, pinup magazine. This issue one of the featured cars is Von Dutch's VW Thing. If you don't know who he is, he's the pinstripper who had a big influence on hot rod customizing. I think he designed the flying eyeball character most of us have seen before. Like anything he created it was almost always weird. His Thing had an airplane theme with throttle levers and a cockpit theme. There was a gas gauge setup sticking out of the hood that would easily tell him what the float level was. He had all of car labeled "front, back, left right". Typical crazy stuff he used to do. Pretty ugly, but really the perfect car for a guy like him.
