Factory Optionshifter assy?

Factory Optionshifter assy?

Does anyone have any picture of the fatory option shifter assy. I have one and i just want to make sure that it's the right one for the 74 181. Thanks

I believe the part you are talking about is the VWofA accessory called a shifter dress up kit. It's a chrome tube that fits over the existing shift lever and is perforated with a number of 3/8" holes. There is a reverse lock plate included and you lift the tube to go into reverse. This same part is (was) available as an EMPI accessory and was, no doubt, bought by VWofA from EMPI. There are pictures of the accessories on several of the THING web sites.

Thanks for your reply do you know if it had a wooden shifter knob.It does have the chrome shaft with the holes in it.I will try to post a picture of the one i have this weekend.

Yes, the VWofA shifter dress-up kit came with a plain round wooden knob. Later EMPI versions came either with an EMPI shift knob, a plain wood knob or an aluminium knob with the EMPI logo cast in.
