I JUST GIVE UP TRYING TO GET THE SOLEX WORKING RIGHT, THE CAR PROBABLY SAT IDLE TOO LONG. FINALLY GOR RID OF THE DEAD SPOTS BUT NOW IS SO RICH IT FOULS THE PLUGS. I QUIT ON IT! AM WANTING TO UPGRADE THE CARB AND MANIFOLD AND NEED SOME RECOMENDATIONS ALONG WITH WHAT I SHOULD EXPECT TO PAY. HAVE READ ALL KINDS OF NIGHTMARES REGARDING DUELS AND THE LINKAGE SO AM INCLINED TOWARDS A SINGLE WEBER. I WANT RELIABILITY VICE HOT PERFORMANCE.

Semper Fi, you`ll have reliability and performance both with the duals. Duals do so many things better than a single. The problems you`re trying to get away from are are single related right? Singles are good only when compared to other singles. Duals are not a nightmare to setup but a single can be. Asking a single to do what duals can do is asking a lot. I could go on and on with a lot of individual reasons why but I think you have the point by now. CB Performance now has a dual Solex kit w/chokes for $299 complete.
If budget is a problem think about Kadrons. Easily found used for $ 175-200. Or see http://www.lowbugget.com
It is generally agreed that Dellortos have better circuitry and better flow for street driven cars however they are not available new. For that reason Webers are quite popular. It`s important to match carb sizes and jetting to displacement and cam characteristics for best results.
I do`nt know what problems you were having with the Solex but I do know these problems are frequently solved by tossing the 09 distributor. They do`nt work well together in stock form. Keep us posted about your decisions here. Good luck. Bob Ingman

SEVERAL "EXPERTS" HERE KEEP SAYING I SHOULD SPEND THE $800 FOR A COMPLETE ENGINE OVERHAUL BEFORE SPENDING ANOTHER $400 ON CARBS. I WENT TO THE LOCAL BUGGY SHOP AND THE OWNER MADE ME AN OUTSTANDING DEAL ON AN TURN-KEY 1835, DUAL PORT WITH WEBER 40, THAT HAS LESS THAN 200 MILES SINCE BEING BUILT. IT'S A HIGH END MACHINE WITH NOTHING BUT FIRST CLASS FROM THE PULLEY TO THE FAN SHROUD. I'LL HAVE TO SELL ALL THE BUGGY DESIGNED CHROME EXHAUST PIPES BUT MY CURRENT EXHAUST SHOULD BOLT RIGHT ON. ONLY THING LEFT IS WHAT TO DO WITH THE STOCK 1600. HOPE TO HAVE SOME PICTURES SOON AT MY THING WEBPAGE

SemperFi sounds af you have a plan. I personally like an 1835 in a Thing while many do not. If it is done well as yours is you should have a good engine. Keep in mind however that the Thing is heavier than a bug and harder to cool for this reason. You are in a hot area so get it broke in and the bugs worked out before the warm season comes. Good luck. Hey Devil Dog:

Will that turnkey engine the local guy is selling you have dual Weber 40's or just one?

I've never run an 1835, but have heard all of the horror stories what with the thin walled jugs, etc.

Like Bob said, you are in the heat-so be extra vigilant about cooling.

Rick

THE 120+ AMBIENT TEMPS WE GET HERE IN SUMMER DON'T SEEM TO BOTHER THE AIR COOLED BUGGIES AT THE FAMOUS GLAMIS DUNES JUST OUTSIDE YUMA. OF COURSE, THEIR ENGINES ARE NOT ENCLOSWED AND MOST HAVE EXTERNAL OIL COOLERS MY THING IS NOT A DAILY DRIVER BUT WILL LOOK INTO ADDING ADDITIONAL COOLING, DOESN'T LOOK ALL THAT EXPENSIVE. THOUGHT I READF WHERE SOMEONE MOUNTED IT ON THE ENGINE ACCESS DOOR?

yeah but there not running extremely thin walls. The buggies are much lighter and thus can run smaller engines so their cyl. walls won't warp in the extreme heat. BTW WHATS WITH THE CAPS STUCK ON?
