I was a little concerned that I was the only person interested in this subject...

I think / hope this Forum will be around for a long time...

Hey Joe, seems like this forum is doing well. I know you just machined that type 1 case for me but you know, those oxyboxers are looking a lot more appealing than your standard as41 case. Not that's there's anything wrong with them of course!!! I think I'm going to keep my eyes open down here in south Texas and maybe send you one or two etc... Good luck on the forum and keep on keeping on.

This is currently THE hot forum IMHO. I`m really getting into it. Going to slap a T-4 into the thing to run for now but the T-5 is becoming more of a plan all the time. Good luck. Bob Ingman

Well Joe, I may or may not be the first in Houston area to get one built, but plans are in the works ( to be the first kid on the block for a change! LOL!) as soon as I get my hands on another donor vanagon with one in it.

I think this forum will do well, especially when word gets out/ around in the near future. I have told some people to check it out.
I also have an attorney friend who has a 74 Westy, I just helped him convert to a 2.0 vanagon cased engine, he is happy with but he also aquired a wasser vanagon, I was wanting to fill him in on some stuff, so
Is it a good choice to turn it into an oxyboxer instead of going back wasser or converting to type 4?

thanks... Keith in TX

I would just run it as a Wasser

They are expensive, and you must be meticulous about everything.

But if you use the Blue V.W. coolant, and with proper maintanence, it should go a long time.

If its Ratty, I would pull the motor and build an Oxy for a fast toy!...

Louie:

If you don't find any in the valley, check around San Antiono. I saw a shop that must have had 10 Vanagons in various state, a couple of runners and more parts Vanagon's.
I bought 2 Vanagons out of Seabrook, TX Paid $200 for a running one with a automatic and wheel chair lift(very rough) and $300 for a Nice one with a bad engine(rod through block)

Since I own a Vanagon Syncro and I am on servral lists, be aware that the folks doing Suburau swaps think they can recover $$$ on selling their wasser. $1800 up for a rebuilt one. Some think they can get $1k for there wore out leaking one. I also got a 91 2.1 from a guy in Wicthaw Falls, for $250, all the accessories computer etc. He did a Subbie swap and got tired of it just sitting around his shop after a few years.

PS: cermanic coating the heads deals with the leaking problem.

First off I have to say that this is a great forum! I am very glad that I found this link on The Samba. My buddy and I are doing a Tiico.com 2.0 VW engine conversion on his 89 Vanagon Syncro. Therefore he has his wasserboxer engine laying around. We are planning on rebuilding it and putting it in a sandrail. After seeing this forum, I think we are going to have to oxybox it!
PapaG, please go to tiico.com before commiting the sin of putting a non-VW engine in a VW! The engine conversion is a gift from god for the Vanagon owner! It is the same 2.0 engine in all of the Jettas/Golfs etc. but was fitted for the Vanagon by VW of South Africa. Every part in the kit was made by VW for the Vanagon!
