big valve heads in the U.S.?

Post by wbx »

It is really nice to see people putting some attention into T5 engines.

Who would you guys recommend to rebuild a set of heads with big valves (how big can you safely go, really?), 3 angle grind, etc... but here in the states? I probably won't be shipping anything off to scotland or england Image

I'm actually thinking stroker crank, too, but i have to look into that one.

Thanks for the input... i'm glad i found this forum.

IIRC, FAT has "done" a number of wassers for off road use over the years, but as they don't do their own porting...

Call the usual suspects, like European, Pauter, and Adrian at HM.

I suspect they do more than a few...

I already called up mr. Bob, and he quoted me about $1,200 for the set of heads. For some reason, this sounds a bit excessive...

I've never looked into a set of hot-rod heads before, so i guess my question is: is this a reasonable price? If so, too rich for my blood.

Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Check on regular heads. He does not sell a head as delivered to him by AMC? New seets etc. I think you will see that it not that much more (reletive speeking)

Cylinder Heads (AMC) 025 101 065C $425.00/ea.
? 1.9 or 2.1
? Inspected and cleaned
? Equipped with replacement valves

Sorry, i wasn't clear. Yes, he sells regular AMC heads, but i was looking for his big-valve heads, which are just AMC jobbers reworked big-valve like. THOSE are what are 1,200... He also said he doesn't really like to sell those seperately (he should), so i'm just looking around for reputable people who can big valve a T5 head.

The engine that i am rebuilding has a relatively new set of AMC heads that look in good shape that i simply want to open up a bit.

Thanks for the info,

Point I was making was it would cost you $850 for a pair of stock heads from Bob, so It was not a lot more $400.00 for his full heads.
Have you seen Marcothesteamengine's heads that Oliver Knuf Did? check this out. http://shoptalkforums.com/bbs/NonCGI/Fo ... 00029.html

Not a lot of places that specialize in the Wasser engine or heads.
Try the following http://www.rockyjennings.com/
A.J. Simms, Headflow Headflow or something like that or most of the good head porters-builders should be able to do so.
I am not sure if Type5 Joes does heads, you might ask him.

Yeah, and what about those wbx squishies you mentioned a while back?

My rebuild is passing you by, john... just ordered a set of 95s today to go with the 82mm crank. Heads are down the road, though. Maybe then, if they're a little less than $1,000+ Image

maybe it's passing us by, and maybe you are building it too soon (depending on your point of view ;-) ). They are in process as we speak. Our WBX Squishies will be available in different pin heights for different cranks.

Any updates on this, John?

I'm getting a set of pistons for Christmas, I`d prefer 4 wassersquishies.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
